We love practical jokes when they are respectful and don’t go too far, but sadly, it seems in this day of pranks for clicks not everyone subscribes to the same page.

April has a long tradition of trickery, with the first day aptly named April Fools Day. The origin of the day, surprisingly, is unknown leaving much room for speculation.

I read on Wikipedia April Fools’ Day could be attributed to Geoffrey Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales, but then I also read the day could be connected to a time in the Middle Ages when New Year’s Day coincided with a different calendar and was celebrated in March.

Either way, one thing for sure is that most of us enjoy jokes when we are not the cause or on the receiving end.

So what about the misguided ways we sometimes fool ourselves?

I think this April’s tradition provides an apt metaphor for the lessons learned around letting go of ego-driven pursuits and finding joy in genuine connections and acts of kindness.
