Dawn you sound like an amazing teacher. The sort I would love to have had growing up. Teaching students to question and think independently but more importantly build trusting relationships is where positive change comes.
I don’t think anyone will and can question ultimately love is the way. But a tremendous amount of healing from all sides is needed and as you say the conversations need to happen. Understandably the reaction to 400+ years of oppression, fear and hurt is where we are now.
The real questions will come when the protests and violence subside. Will America and other parts of the world change. Will we have an honest dialogue that is desperately needed?
Growing up I remember the abhorrence of South Africa’s apartheid and thinking what is it going to take for change. Things are not perfect but they did change so I am optimistic recent events can be a catalyst if we want it to be.
Sadly change will only happen when right-minded people speak up and act as allies and when more people understand we should judge each other by character and nothing else.
So I am glad you shared this piece, right now we need more people to speak out.
