I gotta tell you how much I enjoyed your ponderings juxtaposing Tolkien, Raganorak alongside doom and the light as you say that is always there.

For kicks I would add if a utopia could ever exist it would be a form of doom in itself. Everything perfect would mean no more threat of doom, nothing to counter balance everything else.
