What This Revolution of the Sun Taught Me

It’s January 2024, and we are days past the shortest day; the darkness still lingers, with grey skies swallowing any chance of sun-blessed days. There is a frostiness in the air as the realisation of December’s excess bites.

January is a month I often describe as a hang-over month because, for the majority of us, we welcome the opportunity for introspection and self-discovery as we negotiate our end of the previous year hangovers and embrace the much-needed physical, mental and financial detoxification.

For precisely this reason, I decided to start this year with no resolutions, embracing the openness and freedom that comes with learning to simply be and be receptive to whatever comes my way.

A Lesson in Attachment and Letting Go

So far, so good, with my first lesson and a reminder of managing my attachment to possessions. It’s a lesson, I know, and welcome the depth of experience that comes with the reminder.

I sold, more realistically, scrapped my car of fifteen years. It had enough mileage to take me to the moon, 292,000 miles there and about, and I am surprised by the resonant feelings of sadness like grey…
