Nailed it Orla, exactly my experience. The length of time spent editiing does vary depending on whether I am writing a personal essay, fact based article or poetry piece. It is never as much fun compared to the first draft, espeacially when inspiration hits and you first write whatever comes to mind. I have been told it is because we use different parts of our brain with the editing being the more analytical and discerning side.
