Well researched and presented Sylvia. I remember a similar disbelief and set of emotions when I first came across the Jim Crow laws.
I ask myself how can so many people go along and not question or stand up to blatant injustices, especially while at the same time claiming to be religious for so long.
I fear part of the answer may be it’s part of the human condition to subjugate and divide. Never and nothing ever makes it right but a lot of what I understand from the emancipation of the enslaved to our present day problems stem from manipulation and greed blinding those with power. Throw into the mix failing to recognise injustices because you comfortable or maybe purposely turning a blind eye or fearful of standing against the “norm" and I guess it part answers my question of how cruelty can prevail.
