A fictional letter looking for answers on the discovery of a surprisingly widely held ‘ism’

Dear Mr Typeface,

It is with a heavy heart I write to inform you about a recent and disturbing discovery about my son. I am ashamed to say he is a fontist!

Not just any type of fontist, but one who has a strong and irrational dislike for the Comic Sans font. Today during a conversation he declared his hatred towards the font and avid support for fontism!

As a parent, I did not see this coming. I am trying hard to forgive him but fear his ill-conceived bias may destroy our relationship. Knowing that he harbours such opinions and supports unwarranted stereotypes is difficult to comprehend.

We did not bring him up like this, it is disappointing to say the least.

You and I both know content is king and page format whilst important should not distract from the words they convey. But I guess for some it is all about perception. At first, I thought it was because of his age and so he could be educated and forgiven. But then I became aware of how deep-rooted his anger and prejudice is. Asking him to support and use Comic Sans is like asking him to use the Blackletter…
